Hey Folks!

Once again, this time for the month of October (yes, I realize we’re in November now) we are awarding a hard-working, PR-chasing, smile-bearing member the “CrossFitter of the Month”! Why? To show how much we appreciate all your hard work, to reward that hard work, and to make sure everyone knows that while we measure results to gauge progress, all the other subtle aspects that make our gym the great place it is don’t go unnoticed.

This month, we’re appreciating someone who has overcome a number of obstacles, changed MANY habits and is reaping the many rewards associated with her hard work in the gym. She can be found trying to PR her Snatch by 20# on a regular basis (gotta love the gumption) and ACTUALLY PRing her deadlift by 20#… on what seems like a regular basis (LUCKY!). She’s regularly in the gym pushing herself and inspiring others; We’re lucky to have such great support and encouragement in the gym – This CrossFitter of the Month is…….. Trish!

Here are her answers to some questions we asked about her experiences:

Name: Trish Whitall

Age: 36

Occupation: HR Advisor at BESTECH

What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit? 6 months of working out in my company’s gym. Prior to that, it would have taken 10 minutes to convince me of the merits of walking to the corner store instead of just driving.

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit? I joined Crossfit Sudbury in July 2012. I choose Crossfit over frequenting other gyms because I don’t want to go through this journey alone. I want to be surrounded by people who will join in my successes, encourage me through my failures and I cherish being able to encourage and support others as well. That’s what being a Crossfitter is all about.

What is your favorite part about crossfit? This is a tough question to answer. I could say it’s being surrounded by people who push me every day; Or perhaps that my focus at work is so much sharper after being in the gym for an hour; Or maybe the extreme high and feeling of accomplishment I get when I PR. The truth is, I don’t have a favorite part about Crossfit. I’m simply a better person for being a part of it.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related): January 16th 2013 will mark my 1 year anniversary for quitting a 19 year smoking habit. I’m also so proud of the improvements to my overall level of fitness in the 4 months since joining Crossfit.

Favorite workout or lift? The deadlift

Change isn’t always easy, but the rewards you get for making positive changes in your life is more than worth the effort.
