Hey Folks!
Yes, I’m still pretty much a month behind, but I’m getting closer to catching up!
This months CrossFitter of the Month has been “in the running” for this recognition for months now, but finally topped the list of people who needed public appreciation. She came into CrossFit with the love and drive for hard work, for challenge, and for achieving what “can’t be done”. She helped represent us at the Catalyst Games this past summer and is found in the gym working hard with a smile on her face (and sometimes taking a couple hours to complete her CrossFit Total – which was awesome and totally worth it haha).
This month we award “CrossFitter of the Month” to Nat!
Name: Natalie Smith
Age: 32
Occupation: Individual and Benefits Processing Clerk for the Canada Revenue Agency
What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit? 24 years of Russian Ballet, 20 years of Graham Modern Dance, 2 years of training in circus arts (static trapeze, handstands, tumbling, and hand balancing), C.I. Training, Pilates, Yoga, A.I.S. (active isolated stretching), and various other conditioning methodologies popular in the dance/circus arts community, I also spent a few years as a globo gym monkey.
How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit? I did it off and on with a group in Toronto called Annex Fitness in 2008/2009 but it wasn’t until I joined CrossFit Sudbury at the end of March in 2012 that I did it with any real consistency.
What is your favorite part about crossfit? The un-wavering support and camaraderie that is synonymous with CrossFit. I don’t think I could have accomplished half of what I have accomplished were it not for the support I got first with Annex Fitness and second with CrossFit Sudbury.
What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)
1) My 203lbs dead lift
2) Acceptance of my physical self. I have struggled with body dysmorphia since I was about 3 or 4 years old and disordered eating since 11. With CrossFit, as cliché as it may sound, something just clicked for me one day and for the first time in my life I’ve been happy with my body and proud of what it can do.
Favorite workout or lift? The snatch and Fran, I like things that challenge me, I like them even more if I really struggle with them.
Congrats Nat and thank you for bringing so much to the gym! :)
