Hey Folks!

Another month is through which means we had to choose another great person to recognize for their hard-work, great attitude and achievements!  This month was difficult as usual, but the hum among the coaches kept bringing up someone who was consistently in the gym over the month, working on weaknesses, achieving goals and improving strength.  This person has been a great inspiration and role model for the youngest members in our gym, as well as a pleasure to have around to discuss CrossFit, Strength and Conditioning, Nutrition and health in general with.  You may have been met him in his current state or you may see the new, purple version (it’s Frosh week for engineers at LU) of him shortly, either way this months CrossFitter of the Month is…

Name: Curtis Halladay

Age: 18

Occupation: Laurentian University Student

What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?

I played basketball, volleyball, football and track and field all through high school, also I raced motocross for about 8 years. I always had something “sports related” on the go through out most of my life until last year when I injured myself in a motocross race, that put me in a bed for about 2 months and on crutches for another 3. As soon as I was able to move around again I bought a gym membership and finaly did a little physical activity…

How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?

I’ve been doing crossfit now for 5 months and I enjoy every minute of it. I chose crossfit because of the athletic aspect and because of how fun it is. Now that I dont play on a sports team, crossfit is the perfect substitute.

What is your favorite part about CrossFit?

My favorite part is how crossfit keeps me on track, it helps me in all aspects of my life, self dicipline, my health, mental strength etc. The crossfit family that I have aquired is amazing, having great people there to push me and incourage me has helped me so much to improve and to keep growing stronger, and a little friendly compition dosn’t hurt ;) . Being in such a great atmosphere around super knowledgeable people, I mean, what more could I ask for?

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (CrossFit or non CrossFit related)

The accomplishment that I am most proud of is how I was able to overcome my injury. I never would’ve thought to get to this point, and crossfit made it possible.

Favorite workout or lift?

This doesn’t really fall under the “lift” category but my favorite movement is definitely the “muscle up”, it’s just so satisfying :)
