Hey Folks!
This month we recognize someone who has been an amazing friend, training partner and motivator in the gym. Someone who could find lots of reasons to spend less time in the gym and more time studying/partying/sleeping/whatever else, but instead chooses to challenge themselves and progress their skills and fitness. We’re lucky to have them training with us and are proud to announce this months “CrossFitter of the Month” as…
Alicia! Thanks so much Ali for bringing such awesome energy to the gym – You’re a pleasure to coach and a great training partner for very often the morning AND evening crews! Here are Alicia’s answers to our questions!
Name: Alicia aka. Skippy
Age: 21
Occupation: Legal Assistant at Beckett Criminal Law
What was your exercise experience prior to crossfit?
I was very active throughout high school, my roots being in track and field. My favourite events were hurdles, 400m sprint and long jump. After high school I attended Laurentian University and retired from track. To keep up with my fitness I started running with Brittney Ramakko. Our favourite race is the Massey Half Marathon. We also had our Goodlife phase, we went so often we may as well have been the poster girls for the “Body Attack” classes.
How long have you been doing crossfit and why do you choose to crossfit?
I joined just over a year ago! CrossFit is challenging but fun, in a weird and twisted way? This past year was hectic while I was finishing my undergrad and work can be stressful at times, CrossFit let’s me blow off steam and helps me stay focused. The progression I’ve made in a years time makes me want to continue pushing myself and encourages me to make new goals.
What is your favorite part about crossfit?
Community. I’m thankful of the friendships I’ve made and how it’s helped me make some lifestyle adjustments. Being surrounded by like-minded people with the similar goals is so motivating. No matter where you go in the world the CrossFit community is so welcoming. I’m looking forward to continuing CrossFit when I move to Australia; of course I already found a gym down under. I’ve loved participating in competitions it’s challenging and eye opening. Seeing athletes at a much higher level makes you realize how much you have to work on, you’re always trying to improve. Shout out to the team Snatch Is Paleo, you guys are cool to workout with too…
What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non crossfit related)
I’ve been working on getting a muscle up on the rings, so for now I’ll settle and say bar muscle ups. The rings will come soon enough. Non-CrossFit related, graduating from Laurentian and getting into law school. I’ll be attending Bond University in Robina Queensland, Australia in January. My goal is to one-day practice as a lawyer in Criminal Law.
Favourite workout or lift?
Murph! I love doing body weight movements, air squats are my jam, plus the body armour makes you feel pretty badass. Hmm… I’ll tell you what lifts I don’t like, snatches and heavy thrusters.
Anything else you would like to share please feel free
Not to get too cheesy, but I’d like to thank Adam and Kristin for running such an awesome gym and fixing me when I’m broken! Coaches, you guys rock, thanks for being so supportive and encouraging, you help everyone reach their goals. Shout out to the morning crew famjam, although we take a while to get going, I know everyone gives it their all and it makes me workout that much harder. I’m sad that I’ll be leaving CrossFit Sudbury in the new year, but I look forward to coming back to visit!
Thank you Alicia again for all your hard work and for being a big reason why our community is as awesome as it is! :)
