Hey Friends!
Sorry it’s late – but here is September’s “CrossFitter of the Month”! This month we’re showing appreciation for someone who has been putting in hard work for a couple of years now and it definitely shows. This person has been a humble, hard worker who is always striving to improve the way they move, while also improving their strengths. We’re lucky to have September’s CrossFitter of the month…
Amy! Here are her answers to our questions! Thanks for being such an awesome part fo the gym Amy!
Name: Amy Frescura
Age: 35
Occupation: Teacher
What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?
I have always enjoyed being active and staying physically fit. Growing up, swimming was my passion. As a swimming instructor and lifeguard in my late teens and early twenties, I was required to maintain a certain level of fitness.
I became more active and found my competitive side when I met my husband, Beau. We spent our summers paddling for a competitive dragon boat, “Team Chiro”. I had the experience of training and paddling with this team as we made it all the way to the world championships in Malaysia.
Our winters were spent on the slopes, snowboarding; and throughout the year, we were in a gym all the time.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and why do you choose to CrossFit?
It’s been 2 years since I started Crossfit. After having two beautiful children, I was looking for a higher level of fitness to get back in shape. Crossfit ended up not only being the physical change I needed, but it educated me about being healthy from the inside out. Going to Crossfit each week is where I go to enjoy some “me time”. When I’m at Crossfit, I feel strong and fit! I love being pushed and inspired by the coaches and the incredible people in the gym.
What is your favorite part about CrossFit?
My favorite part about Crossfit is the mental aspect of the sport. Each time I look up at the board and read the workout of the day, I think, “OMG!! Ok, how am I going to get through this?” But I do it! I love how Crossfit helps me find my inner motivation and strength, as well as the skills I never thought I had.
I love the intensity of every workout!
What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (Crossfit or non CrossFit related)
I am most proud of being a mother and a wife. Family is the most important thing to me. I’m also very proud the way my husband Beau and I work together to incorporate fitness in our daily family life. We also feel it is necessary to instill our values of health and fitness to our son, Mauro and our daughter, Milena.
Favorite workout or lift?
My favorite workouts involve anything with body weight movements (pull-ups, push-ups, rope climbs, box jumps) and running.
Anything else you would like to share please feel free
This was an awesome surprise! Thank-you to all of the coaches at CrossFit Sudbury who work so hard, and to all of the awesome members who always have such positive attitudes. Also, a big thank-you to my husband for giving me confidence and that extra push when I need it!
