For this January, we wanted to pick someone who has been putting in work, AND who always seems to have a smile on their face while they do it. Making tonnes of awesome relationships and just elevating the mood in the gym is something that happens when this person is around. This month, we’re recognizing…

Gabi!

Here are her answers to our questions :)

Name: Gabriela Moraes

Age: 34

Occupation: Environmental Scientist

What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?
I used to go to dance classes and volleyball practice as a kid. Around age fifteen I started going to a regular gym, where I used to do various types of classes (spinning, functional, body systems, and step – my favourite). During that time, I remember some friends inviting me to join them in a running event. And just like that I was hooked. I started running almost every day, and joined lots of running events. I loved it. At the time, my mom, who was never enthusiastic of running, saw my passion and decided to give it a shot. She got hooked too and has been partaking in running events since then.

How long have you been doing CrossFit and why do you choose to CrossFit?
I’ve been doing CrossFit since November of 2017. At that time, I was chatting with some friends at work, telling them how blue I was feeling because I wasn’t working out, and Emily Lemieux suggested that I should try CrossFit. I was a little afraid because I never had any weightlifting experience before, but the sessions with Adam calmed me down and made me more comfortable with the lifts.

What is your favourite part about CrossFit?
My favourite part about CrossFit is the friendly atmosphere, people cheering for you, and the high-fives.

What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (CrossFit or non CrossFit related)
I am pretty proud that I moved to Canada, it is wasn’t easy at the beginning, but I am glad that I am building a career here and making friends. Also, I am proud that I can make at least 1 double under!

Favourite workout or lift?
No body will believe me, but my favourite workout is box jumps and deadlifts.
