Hey Folks!

It’s the most wonderful time of the month! CrossFitter of the month time! For March we’ve picked someone who has been putting in work consistently and lightening up our days with free labour and “great” jokes every time we see them. Always coachable and seeing huge improvements, we’re stoked to recognize this person as March’s “CrossFitter of the Month”

Heiko! Thanks for the great energy you bring to the gym – Here are Heiko’s answers to our questions :)

Name: Heiko Leers

Age: 55

Occupation: Retired / white board and bell hanger

What was your experience with CrossFit Sudbury?

Amazing.

I felt a little awkward and intimidated at first because I thought I was not capable but the family at crossfit sudbury was and is warm and welcoming. Many even laugh at my bad jokes.

No matter the exercise the coaches adjust each individual task such that it will work for you. So you can work out with the RX athletes during the same workout.  And when it’s done everyone is in the same spot … laying in a pool of sweat.  Awesome!!

How long have you been with us?

I have been at CrossFit Sudbury since January of 2018 – one to two times per week. Starting in aug 2018 I retired and upped frequency to 5/6 times per week.  I would go more but my wife Helen won’t let me go – just kidding – Helen is very supportive of me going – especially on my rest days!

Why did you choose CrossFit Sudbury?

My wife, the ultra runner, wanted to get into better shape to help with her overall fitness and I wanted to get into better shape as well.  We contacted Adam and off we went.

What is your favourite part of CrossFit?

I have two.  One is the people. It’s a great welcoming group especially the coaches. And two is that after a 20 to 30 min WOD (workout of the day) I am knackered ! Which is my daily goal.

What are some accomplishments of which you are proud?

I went from a size 40 waist to 36 … and my new jeans are getting loose too.

My endurance and stamina have significantly improved and I have a ton more energy!

What is your favourite workout, or lift?

  • This would be the rest period in the middle of the work outs … I have this one nailed
  • Next would not be Burpees. Burpees would be last.
  • Actually – I think I like wall balls the most.

Anything else you’d like to add, please feel free!

  • I have met some very amazing and friendly people at CrossFit Sudbury.
  • I appreciate that coaches are so supportive …. its amazing that almost every session I get a small tip that really helps and I now realize that the coaches give those tips when they think you are ready to use them.  That is cool!!
