Hey Folks!
It’s our favourite time of the month – We’re showcasing another of our beauty members! This month we’ve asked our questions to someone who is, as usual, consistent, positive, and a great team player. One of the keystones in our morning crew and always a friendly face for new and more experienced members day in – day out. We’re very proud to recognize this persons hard work and dedication to their health and fitness. For December 2019, we’re recognizing our CrossFitter of the Month as…
Megan!
Here are her answers to our questions :)
Name: Megan Dumais
Age: 46
Occupation: Director of Corporate Services for a public sector agency
What was your exercise experience prior to CrossFit?
A little of this, a little of that. I was a synchronized swimmer when I was kid and now enjoy doing several different activities such as walking, hiking, cross-country skiing and Pilates.
How long have you been doing CrossFit and why do you choose to CrossFit?
I have been doing CrossFit regularly since June 2017. I had a couple of false starts prior to this as I struggled, at first, to find a time of day that worked well for me. Finally, in June of 2017, my husband was able to convince me to give early mornings a try and I have been coming consistently since then (except for a minor blip in the winter of 2018 when I fractured my tibia).
What is your favorite part about CrossFit?
The people and the smaller class sizes. I also really appreciate the one-to-one coaching attention. Learning to lift weights properly and having someone push me further than I could do alone, has been awesome!
What are the accomplishments you are proud of? (CrossFit or non CrossFit related)
I was very proud to have climbed Grouse Mountain (853 metre vertical climb – nearly 3 km) in Vancouver this past summer. It was a tough climb and I was pumped when I passed people much younger than myself. I was pretty thrilled that my quads and lower back were not wrecked the next day. Without having CrossFit in my life, I am certain that I would have really struggled to finish that climb and been super sore the next day. I’m reminded all the time of how much CrossFit has improved not only my physical health but my mental wellbeing. I love the mental challenge associated with completed a WOD, especially the ones that seem impossible when I review them on SugarWOD.
Favourite workout or lift?
I really like doing deadlifts. I think it has to do with the fact that this is the lift I feel most comfortable doing and for which I lift the most weight so far. In terms of workouts, I enjoy AMRAPS that focus on using body weight like squats, sit-ups, lunges, etc.
Anything else you would like to share please feel free
I would really to thank the morning coaches in particular, who make morning CrossFit a lot of fun. I developed tendinitis in my left forearm from using crutches in 2018 and unfortunately, that injury still bothers me today. The coaches have been amazing in providing me with alternative movements/activities that are less aggravating for my injury and I still feel like I get in a great workout. If I didn’t have this support, I’m not sure I would have stuck with it.
